For Sadie
When you were born, my child —
the sun soared through white clouds, rejoicing in light,
When you were born, my child —
the sky broke wide with songbirds, bursting in blue,
When you were born, my child —
the leaves shimmered green, glittering in promenade,
When you were born, my child —
the branches stood tall and proud, bending in gentle bows,
When you were born, my child —
the tulips danced pink and yellow, shining in dappled light,
When you were born, my child —
I held you against my breast, crying in vibrant life,
When you were born, my child —
I knew love as never before, shattering open my heart in unbridled joy.
